Ok, there, I said it. I am running a marathon. That’s 42 kilometers, baby!
I am aiming for the Condura Skyway Marathon, which was recently announced that it will be held on Feb. 5, 2012. That’s four months from now. Given my shape and my recent 21K run, I should be able to finish the marathon in within 5 to 6 hours.
So what do I do between now and February 2? Obviously I have to train. I will follow that most marathon training plans say:
- Speed work should be included in the training week. I will add in tempo runs, interval runs, hill runs.
- Then, at least once a week (probably on the weekends), I will run a long slow run.
- My weekly mileage should increase week by week.
- My longest run should happen about 2 or 3 weeks before the event. Then I should taper off.
